Display Cases: Retail Store Information   by Ron P. Maier

The use of display cases along with certain store fixtures can help you to promote items, advertise sales, reduce theft and beautifully display your most treasured inventory.
Most retail stores use glass display cases to show off their most valuable products. Sunglasses, jewelry, wallets, hats, electronics and more can be kept under lock and key. At the same time, many glass cases have special lighting inside which makes watches and jewelry sparkle. Spotlighting draws attention to these products and makes them look very enticing. Also, if customers are not rummaging through the merchandise, then it stays neat and orderly giving off the best appearance possible.
Glass display cases can be locked to keep thieves away. It forces them to ask an associate when they would like to see an item more closely. You can also reduce employee theft by using a locking mechanism on your glass display cases. Keep a daily inventory of which items are inside. Have an employee do a count every day at closing. All sales of items in the display case should be noted on the same sheet, along with a transaction number and a sales associate signature.
Glass display cases also keep make-up and other perishables from being sampled or handled by customers. This just about eliminates possible contamination of such products, while reducing theft and allowing for a beautiful display.
If your store uses a glass display case as a counter for register sales, then it is a perfect place for you to encourage last minute sales. Small inexpensive impulse items can easily be displayed on racks or in acrylic bins right at the register. Many companies report a significant percentage of sales which they attribute to impulse sales at the register.
You can also use the display area to encourage people to sign up for store credit cards, participate in surveys, or notice future sales advertisements. Small racks can display jewelry, sunglasses, cell phone cases and magnets. These items are often overlooked unless they are located at the register. When someone is at the register ready to check out, they are forced to stand and look at what you have displayed here.
Drawing the eye is the main goal of any display. Glass and lights definitely draw attention. Have your employees keep the glass clean and sparkling for the maximum impact. Make sure that they have plenty of other desk and drawer space for their office supplies so that they do not get the counter cluttered up. With a few lighting tricks, a transaction/inventory log, and a locking mechanism on your glass store displays, you can boost your sales, reduce your loss and attract a lot of attention to your inventory.
